Small Pool Table Review

Small Pool Table Review
A small pool table is often the choice for many
when playing any type of pool or billiards because they take up a lot less room than a standard pool table yet
it doesn’t change the way you play pool or any other type of billiards. And playing pool at home will save you
money too.
How Much Room Do You Need For a Small Pool Table?
If you don't have a lot of space in your home you
can usually find a good area to put a small pool table into. They will fit into small rooms or in the corner of
a large room. The usual size of a regulation pool table is 4 x 8 feet (1.22m x 2.44 m) which is a manageable
room size and may not be regulation size depending on which one you pick if the measurements vary. Make sure to
allow for plenty of room behind you to maneuver the pool cue stick.
You can get them smaller too such as the bar size
below or still other measurements. They do come in even smaller sizes too and you can get very small or mini or
miniature pool tables and folding and outdoor pool tables too.
It's not commonly known but the commercial,
regulation, slate pool tables in pubs, bars, taverns and lounges are small pool tables. The pool table
dimensions are usually 3.5 x 7 feet, the same as for the standard small pool table of which there are many other
dimensions or sizes. They're usually coin operated pool tables. So of course you won't be needing this type of
coin operated pool table at home.
Although you usually see rectangle small pool
tables they do come in other shapes. They can be round, in a
zig zag pattern or even hexagonal. Pool table legs can vary in
number. It all depends on the weight of the slate on the table and its thickness and the total
size of the table.
You can find small pool tables with four, six or
eight legs supporting them. There are some snooker (10 foot table - not a small table) and billiards
tables that are more exotic with a pedestal base instead of legs.
Small Pooltable Construction
However you'll find good construction so the
small pool table legs support several beams that are needed to hold up the heavy slate. You want a full one-inch
slate playing surface, if possible, that is diamond-honed and supported by the best lumber support
beams.
Tables usually have drop pockets made of net or
netting or may have a container of some type to hold the balls that have fallen into the
pocket.
Small pool tables come in many different sizes
although the most popular is the 4 x 8 size. There are many miniature
pool tables, sometimes called mini pool tables and there are many kids small pool tables too.
Besides the shape that I mentioned they come in
many different designs and colors. The cloth or felt top is
not always green and you can get many other colors. Most small pool tables come with the basic accessories
you'll need such as balls, at least 2 cues or cue sticks or pool sticks or pool cues- depending on what you call
them, a rail brush and some chalk.
You may want to buy your own pool stick of custom
cue stick as the cue sticks that come with the table are standard. No guarantee they will help you pay pool or
billiards better.
Most slate pool tables have smooth rubber tails,
nice inlays and/or diamond inlays. They have good cushions or good cushioning throughout. The more stylish pooltables fit
nicely into a media room, game room or family room.
Many different woods and hardwoods are used in
the manufacture of small pool tables walnut, cherry, oak, mahogany and cherry are the most common. You'll also
find Brazilian cherry and African rosewood.
The pooltable beds are made so they're resistant
to warping, are sturdy and stable and have smooth rolling beds.
Small pool table beds have a wide range of
prices. They'll cost more if you want one of the more exotic hardwoods.
You'll probably want to buy some pool table
supplies such as designer or cheap pool table lights to give you the best lighting for your game of pool or
billiards. You must have good lights. Wave makes good lights. You may want extra pool table balls. You may get
some chalk with your miniature or billiards table.
There are many small pool tables for sale online.
You can get used small pool tables but I would be reluctant to buy used tables online. Craigslist may be a
better choice for used pool tables so you can inspect it first for any damage or warping. It would be hard to
ship back a used pool table if you were unhappy. Small pool tables are so much cheaper than the standard size.
If at all possible buy a new small pool table. (Spanish: mesa de billar)
